What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is a GPT website that’s been around for 10 years now. It has paid over 100 million in rewards to its massive 15 million users database.

There are many different ways you can earn money with Swagbucks from searching the web through their search engine to complete surveys or even watch videos.

Who is behind Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is owned by Prodege LLC, a company helping brands boost engagement with consumers. You may have never heard of Prodege but they work with big brands such as the New York Giants, WWE, WGN America and many big brands.

Who can use Swagbucks?

There are only 2 big restrictions when it comes to who can join.

  • You need to be at least 13 years old.
  • You need to live in
    • US Sign up
    • UK Sign up
    • Ireland Sign up
    • Canada Sign up
    • Australia Sign up

How to sign up?

To sign up it is very simple. Go to Swagbucks and either sign up using your email address or sign up with your Facebook account

Make sure to verify your email address by clicking on the link provided in the email you will receive.

Once you click the link to verify your account, you will be taken to a screen where you will have few tasks to perform to earn some quick Swagbucks.

If you perform all the task from that screen you will earn 1,105 SBs which is equivalent to $11.05 (as a reminder 100SB= $1)

Not bad for less than 5 minutes of work.

How to Make Money with Swagbucks?

As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of different ways to earn money with Swagbucks. I tried them all and some are definitely better than others. Make sure to stay tuned to discover which ones are worth your time.

Swagbucks Search

To get started with Swagbucks search, you will need to install the Swagbutton into your browser. You will be rewarded 50 SBs just for installing the button.

Once you are set up, all you will have to do is perform your internet searches through the Swagbucks search.

The search is powered by Yahoo so don’t worry about the search engine quality. It is very nice and will return relevant results to any query you enter.

The payout for each search will vary depending on what you search but you could earn up to 38 SBs just for doing a search. I personally used that function a few times but never earned more than 13 SBs.

Tip: To maximize profit, set Swagbucks as your default browser to never miss on easy SBs. However, don’t waste time trying to earn by doing fake searches, it won’t be worth the hassle.

Daily To Do List

Every day, you will have a To Do List to complete with 8 tasks.

Complete any 6 of the 8 items on your to-do list and you’ll receive a 1- 4 SB Bonus Pay-Out Complete all 8 items on your to-do list, you’ll receive an additional and even bigger SB Bonus!Swagbucks

Here is a list of the 8 tasks:

  • Daily poll, which is a simple poll where you vote for your favorite answer. It only takes a few seconds and earns you 1 SB.
  • Daily Crave, which requires you to check a specific piece of content and vote to express if you like or not. This task will take you a few minutes and will earn you 2 SBs.
  • Daily Search, which requires you to click on the Daily Search link or earn SB from doing a search through Swagbucks Search.
  • Attempt a Survey, get some SB for attempting a Gold survey you do not qualify for
  • Complete a Gold Survey, get some SB for completing a Gold survey you qualify for
  • Discover, simply head over to Discover and earn at least 1 SB to check this item off your To Do List. The easiest way to accomplish this is by completing an activity under Explore Web Content and Earn, also known as Click and Earn Offers.
  • Swagbutton Activity, simply use your button once during the day
  • Watch, simply watch entertaining videos, news clips, fitness tips, recipes, and more to earn SB and check this item off your To Do List.

Tip: Go to your favorite channel on Watch and choose the playlist with the least number of videos. For example, if you love entertainment, check out a playlist that only has 6 videos.

Swag Codes

Swag codes are probably the easiest way to earn Swagbucks.

Anytime a code is published, you will be notified. Simply follow the instructions telling you where to get the code. Most of the time, the Swag codes will be on Swagbucks Instagram, Twitter or Facebook account.

Once you get the code, you simply need to copy it in the Swag code tab or in the app depending on what type of device you are using. You will be rewarded with 5-10 SBs for it.

Swagbucks Watch

On top of using Swagbucks Watch to complete your Daily To Do List. You can also use it to earn some SBs.

Once you click on Watch on the right side menu you will be taken to Swag TV (see the screen below):

Swagbucks TV kinda looks like Youtube. It has different many categories to choose from with many videos available.

To earn SBs, you will need to watch a series of videos also called a playlist. Depending on the topic and the length of the playlist, you will earn more or less SBs. Typically, you will earn between 1-3 SBs for a 20 minutes playlist.

In order to earn the SBs, you need to watch the entire playlist.

Tip: Start a new tab on your computer, mute the video player and let it play. Once you are done with one playlist, move on to the next one and watch your SBs grow! If you have a smartphone, you can do the same thing, just play the videos when you don’t use your phone or play them on an unused tablet if you have one.

Swagbucks Discover

Swagbucks Discover is where you want to spend some time looking around because it is where you will make the most money.

In that section, you will be shown various offers ranging from free trials, to cash back offers or coupon offers.

Payout to complete these offers can be as high as 5,000SBs which is $50. All you have to do is examine each offer and see if you are interested in some of them.

If you are, perfect! You will make some money for something you want.

If you don’t find something you like, don’t worry! Simply read the fine prints and understand what needs to be done to receive the SBs so you know when to cancel the offer.

For example, let’s look at the Dollar Shave Club

Pay $5 to receive their starter kit. You will get 2,000 SBs ($20). Use the kit, resell it or give it away. Then, make sure to cancel your subscription before the next kit is scheduled to be sent out. You made a cool $15.

Do you see you see the potential? There are lots of offers available which mean there is a lot of money to be made.

All you have to do is be careful and read the fine prints to know exactly how the earn the SBs. Once you know, make sure to cancel before you pay more than what you earn.

Tip: Use a service like Privacy. It lets you create a one-time use virtual linked to your bank account. Since it is a one-time use card number, you are safe from getting rebilled automatically. If it is not clear how Privacy can help you, just check the video below:

Swagbucks Shop

In this section, you will be able to earn a lot of SBs by shopping on pretty much any major websites. The goal here is not to make a purchase or complete an offer to earn SBs.

Instead, you need to take advantage of the numerous partners Swagbucks has to get rewarded for purchases you would make anyway.

Swagbucks Store Coupons

Swagbucks Coupons are very similar to what you can find on Retailmenot or Coupon.com. The only difference is the fact that you earn rewards when you use a coupon from Swagbucks. With coupons for websites like Walmart or Old Navy amongst others, you should always make sure to check the coupon section before making a purchase online.

Swagbucks Grocery Coupons

With Swagbucks grocery coupons, you have access to printable coupons for the grocery store. You will earn 1 SB for each coupon you print up to a max of 25 coupons per day.

Tip: Make sure to always check Swagbucks before going to the grocery store for available coupons. Then simply, print the coupons you need if you use your desktop or download them directly through the app, if you use a smartphone.

The only downside comes from the fact that grocery coupons are only valid in the United States, at the moment.

It is also important to note that sometimes the SBs you earn will not show up right away in your wallet as it may take up to 12 weeks for SBs earned to show in your account.

Earn cashback

Cashback works exactly as it does on Ebates. All you have to do is enter the website you want to go to from the link on the Swagbucks website and you will be credited some cashback based on how much you spend on that website.

Your cashback earning will range from 1SBs to 20SBs per $1 spent on many websites such as Amazon, Groupon, Expedia and other major websites.

Tip: Make sure to have your Swagbutton button installed if you use Swagbucks on your desktop, that way, you will be notified anytime you can earn cash back when you are on a participating website. If you use a smartphone, make sure to check in the app if the website you plan on buying from offers SBs cashback. If it does, use the app to access the website you plan to make the purchase on.

Hotel Search Engine

In this section, you will be able to search for hotel rooms within Swagbucks. The mini search engines will look for the best deals available not only for prices but also for SBs rewards.

Personally, it did not really like this features because I can always find better deals by using websites such as Google Flights.

However, it cost nothing to make a quick search and reward can be huge if you find a great deal.

Local Shopping

You can also earn SBs by eating at local places. Rewards will range from 5 SBs per dollar spent to 10 SBs per dollar spent.

To be able to earn the reward, you need to link in the card you plan on using to pay at your local participating restaurant.

It is also important to mention that your first local shopping experience will earn you 500 SBs which is a lot compared to most of the other ways of earning.

In-Store Promotion

In this section, you will be able to earn SBs for purchases made in store by uploading your receipt. The Swagbucks team will review your receipt and give you rewards for qualified purchases.

This way of earning is very promising, however, there are only three partner stores at the moment. Make sure to keep an eye on that section as Swagbucks are adding stores because it can be a very painless and effective way to earn rewards.

Buy Gift Cards

You can buy gift cards through Swagbucks while earning from 2 SBs to 10 SBs per dollar spent. As an occasional gift card buyer, I truly enjoyed this sections as I was able to earn more than 500 SBs for buying 2 gift cards.

Swagbucks Daily Goal & Winning Streaks

One of the cool features on Swagbucks is the bonus you can earn through Daily Goals and Winning Streaks. These extra SBs may not seem a lot but when you hit bonuses and winning streaks for a few days in a row, everything will add up to a nice chunk of SBs.

Daily Goal

To know what you need to do to earn the bonus, simply click on the Daily Goal tab.

There, you will see how many SBs you need to earn and how much time you have left to reach that number. Once completed, you will be credited the bonus instantly in your account.

As you complete daily goals, the goals will get a little tougher to reach but the bonuses will grow as well.

Tip: Follow the Daily To Do List and you will earn more than enough points to reach the daily goal. That way you can kill two birds with one by earning a bonus for completing your Daily To Do List but also the bonus for your Daily Goal.

Winning Streaks

If you hit multiple daily goals in a row, you will get even more SBs by completing winning streaks, the highest being a 300 SBs bonus for hitting the 30 days streak.

Swagbucks Answer

In this Swagbucks section, you will be able to earn SBs for voicing your opinion and by performing small tasks. To me, the reward versus the time you need to put in is not very good for all three options you have so I did not really spend too much time in this category.

However, let me give you a quick overview of the three options available.

In that section of the website, you will be rewarded SBs for completing specific tasks.

The interface looks very similar to a job board where you will have the title of the task and the pay per task.

You will be able to pick from multiple different tasks varying a lot from one to another. If you are interested in exploring this option, you will be prompted to create an account with Figure Eight to be able to access the different tasks.

Personally, the Task section looks very cool and neat but it is not a very efficient way to earn SBs.

Tip: If you want to complete some task, only focus on the ones paying more than 1 SB per action. Anything below that is literally paying you less than a penny per action.

Gold Surveys

Swagbucks does offer paid surveys like most typical survey websites such as Survey Junkie. While there is much better return for your time on Swagbucks, the website has a decent selection of paid surveys to choose from.

I would recommend spending more of your time on completing offers from the Discover section, but if you need some extra Swagbucks to reach your daily goal and can’t find any offers, then taking the paid surveys is the next best option.

Tip: Always look at the time necessary to complete a survey vs how much you earn from completing it. The goal is to earn the most SBs while spending the least amount of time on the survey.

Daily Poll

I talked about the Daily Poll earlier when I was describing the Daily To Do List. Even if you don’t plan on performing all the tasks from the Daily To Do List, you should always complete the daily poll. It does not pay a lot but it literally takes 10 sec to complete.

Swagbucks Play

The name here is pretty self-explanatory, you play some games and get rewarded for it.

While it sounds like a very nice way to earn rewards, it turns out that it is actually one of the worst ways to earn SBs on the site.

There are two ways to earn money while playing, you can play the free games or you can earn cash back with the pay to play games.

Free Games

Unfortunately, there are only three free games available

As you can see, they are not very exciting games and you need to spend a lot of time to earn very little SBs.

Tip: Do not waste time here

Paid Games

You will know most of the game available here as they are very popular for the most part.

However, you need to be ready to spend some money to buy tokens if you want to play them!

Based on how much money you spent, you will earn between 4 and 12 SBs per dollar spent.

Tip: Do not waste time here, unless you already playing and spending money on one of the games available on Swagbucks.

Swagbucks Contests

Swagbucks Sweepstakes

Swagbucks has some sweepstakes available that cost SBs to join. Personally, I don’t recommend them because you are not sure that you will get any return on your investment.

Tip: It is not that easy to earn SBs so make sure to work on growing your egg nest faster by hitting bonuses instead of hoping to hit a prize in the sweepstakes.

This is a contest available, to new members but it also comes back from time to time. Here’s how it works:

  1. Each square on your Swago board has an associated activity. Complete that activity to mark off that square.
  2. You have a limited amount of time to mark off as many squares as possible.
  3. Be mindful of the patterns and their corresponding bonuses. The patterns will vary in difficulty and bonus value. Try to achieve the more difficult pattern in order to receive the highest bonus.
  4. Your patterns and their corresponding bonuses can be found to the right of your board. Once you’ve achieved a pattern the “submit” button will turn red. You can have multiple patterns available for submission. However, you can only submit one pattern.

Tip: From what I see, there is at least one gift card purchase to be able to hit the high bonuses. I would only spend time working on completing activities if I was planning on buying a gift card.

How much money can you earn with Swagbucks?

If you take advantage of the offers in Discovery section, do few surveys per week, do all your browsing through the Swagbucks search engine, and if you are actively earning bonuses, you can easily earn a pretty decent amount of money from Swagbucks. To me based on my experience and by consistently integrating Swagbucks to your everyday life, you can make over $1,000 per year.

My Experience

While using Swagbucks, I mainly earned SBs through their search engine, letting videos play in the background of my computer and completing two offers in the Discovery section. I was able to reach $25 in passive income after 10 days.

Earning Potential

Let’s do some quick calculations to see how much you can earn in a month if you are pretty  active:

  1. 50 SB per week for using their search engine x 4 weeks = 200 SBs
  2. 100 Swagcodes (at the value of 2 SB each) per month = 200 SBs
  3. Print 100 groceries coupons per week (1 SB per coupon) x 4 weeks  = 400 SBs
  4. Answer the daily poll every day for 1 SB x 30 days = 30 SBs
  5. Take one survey per day at 60 SB x 30 = 1,800 SBs
  6. Refer 3 friends and they each earn 300 SB = 900 SBs
  7. Complete 10 free offers in the Discover section (avg payout= 50) = 500 SBs
  8. Complete 1 trial offer in the Discover section (avg payout= 2500) = 2,500 SBs
  9. Watch videos for 10 SB per day x 30 = 300 SBs

That’s equal to 6,830 per month, which is equivalent to $68.30/month or $820/ year!

That’s also not counting any bonuses you would earn for completing specific challenges.

I know what you might be thinking, it is not a lot but remember, you will never get rich from any survey or GPT sites. The goal is to find surveys or tasks to complete that give you rewards for very little work.

How to redeem your money

There are three ways to redeem your SBs.

  1. Through gift cards. Swagbucks has a very big choice of gift cards available, including all the big names such as Amazon, eBay and iTunes. The lowest amount of SB you need to redeem is 300 SBs while the maximum is capped at 50,000 SBs.
  2. Through Paypal if you have at least 2,500 SBs.
  3. You can donate your SBs to different charities.

Swagbucks pros and cons

  • 100% free to join.
  • Earn for using Swagbucks search engine as your default search engine.
  • Good referral system.
  • Earn reward when buying gift cards.
  • A trustworthy company that pays its users.
  • Many different ways to earn.
  • Clean and easy to use interface.
  • 3 payouts methods (including Paypal and Amazon gift cards)
  • Anybody over 13 years old can join
  • Has a mobile app
  • Many high bonuses available

  • Only available in 5 countries (listed above).
  • Qualifying for surveys is not guaranteed.
  • Customer service can be slow at time.
  • Swagbucks search engine is not as good as Google.
  • Cashback deals are not as good as the ones on Ebates
  • It is easy to get sucked into the SB hunt
  • It is possible to get lost in activities that don’t pay well.

Conclusion – Is Swagbucks legit or scam?

Swagbucks is definitely not a scam. It’s a legitimate GPT website where you will earn rewards for completing specific tasks.

It offers a wide variety of tasks, however, not all the task are created equal!

You should make sure to earn points with the easy tasks such the videos, the Daily Polls or Discover offers while staying away from the games for example.

As for any GPT or survey site, you should make sure to always compare the amount of time necessary to perform a task versus the amount of reward you will get. That way, you should be able to make the most out of your time. The way to maximize your earnings is to understand which tasks are worth your time.

From my experience, it is quite easy to earn $50 per month while only completing very quick and easy tasks.

While Swagbucks is a good way to earn some extra money, it certainly won’t make you a full-time income like some other online opportunities.

What I’ve been using to generate some passive income online is called affiliate marketing and I can tell you that it is much better than Swagbucks.

The amount of money you can make is virtually unlimited – some people make millions per year! It is not a get rich scheme as you will need to put some time into it to get everything set up but the payback is well worth it.

Now before I end my article, I would like to ask you guys a question.

“Have you ever used Swagbucks before? If you did, what do you think of it?”

Feel free to answer in the comment section below, and if you have any questions, simply ask, I would love to help out.
